Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

Jeans or a suit… It really doesn’t matter. The point is to worship with us, not impress us!

When are your services?

Our main worship service starts in the sanctuary at 10:30am.  If you need help finding it, one of our greeters will be happy to point the way… and you can also find a campus map on our website.  Sunday school for kids to adults starts at 9:30.  We can help you find class locations too!

Where do I park?

We have guest spaces near the front door… but if you want to just “blend in”, feel free to park just about anywhere (please don’t park in the flower beds 🙂 ).

What kind of music do you sing?

We have a really good mix of music that celebrates each generation of people who are part of our family.  On a typical Sunday morning, we’ll sing some very new music and one or two more familiar church songs.  We love the diversity of our body and that is reflected in our music!

Why do you sing?

The short answer… the Bible tells us to. The long answer: There are many scriptures that seem to relate the posture of worship and music as hand in hand. And we are musical… that’s the way God made us. Whether you can carry a tune or not, we believe that God likes to hear you sing. The church has also always done this… and it makes complete sense to keep it going! That and there is no other time in our worship when all of our people are on the exact same page doing and singing the exact same thing. It’s a great community thing! But truthfully, we have many who don’t sing yet… and that’s okay too!

What will my kids do?

We love kids at Clear Lake Nazarene!  We have nursery for our younger children, toddler care for the “little older” kids… and Sunday school and Children’s church (following the music portion of the service) for kids through 6th grade.  On Wednesdays, our kids have Bible quizzing and different age specific activities and our teens have a really cool youth group in the gym.

How will I know when to stand and sit?

The pastor or the worship leader will ask the congregation to stand or sit. Generally, we stand during congregation songs and short readings, which are displayed on large screens. You may sit or stand at anytime you wish.

I haven’t always been a Christian… or I’m just investigating Christianity, can I come to this church?

Please do. We have many members who can relate. In fact, according to the Bible, none of us have a lot of room to judge. Come and join us as we try together to learn more about what being a Christian really means.

Do you have ministries for my kids to be involved in?

Yes, yes and yes!  Our teens meet weekly in their own facility for Bible study and fun together… and go on mission trips and a bunch of other trips and events.  Our kids meet on Sunday morning to learn the basics of faith… join us in our sanctuary for singing, and then meet for kids church.  They also have Bible quizzing, Easter egg hunts, service projects and more!

Am I expected to donate money when I visit?

We encourage Biblical tithing for our members, but as our guest, we are just thrilled that you’re here and don’t expect you to give anything!

I’m not a Nazarene, what’s the deal with that?

The Nazarene Denomination is a conservative, evangelical denomination and you’ll find our beliefs are familiar to most Christians. We have a huge emphasis on missions and support a global network of missionaries who are changing the face of the world. But honestly, it is a fact that we have a wide array of backgrounds represented among our people: Baptist, Charismatic/Pentecostal, Catholic, Methodist, and non-denominational. We love this diversity!

Holiness? Sanctification? What do these words mean?

I’m glad you asked. We simply believe that God doesn’t just want to save your soul and leave you to fend for yourself. He’s alive, wants a relationship with you, and is calling you to a fuller life in Him. On this journey, you’ll begin to know Him better and better and love Him more and more every day. And you’ll want to live like you do!
